Research interests: Dr. Overly has focused his teaching and research interests around high-fidelity medical simulation. He was appointed co-director of pediatric simulation in 2003 and has subsequently been promoted to co-director of the Rhode Island Hospital Medical Simulation Center. He has written and published articles on a variety of Pediatric Emergency Medicine topics including patient monitoring during procedural sedation, asthma, and recently published data looking at high-fidelity medical simulation as an assessment tool for pediatric airway skills. His interests in simulation also include the use of simulation-enhanced training to improve the care of patients through teamwork training and pre-hospital management of pediatric patients with traumatic brain injury.
