Dr. Jay studies the NanoTribology of a synovial fluid lubricating protein (lubricin, PRG4), which serves to protect articular cartilage. Scale building studies using the AFM have resulted in new models of boundary lubrication, which pertain to Non-biological materials. Dr. Jay also works closely with engineering students in developing and testing novel devices including Non-invasive Hb measurement and pulsus paradoxus monitoring.
