Research: Interfaces and Coatings: Fracture Toughness of Interfaces

Summary

The goal of this project is to calculate the fracture toughness of interfaces between materials.  There are three current projects:

1. Discrete dislocation simulation of fracture of single crystals (Jean Gullickson, Alan Needleman)

2. Discrete dislocation simulations of fracture of bi-material interfaces (Mike O'Day, Bill Curtin)

3. Continuum simulations to predict the influence of roughness on the fracture toughness of an interface (Olivier Magdelene, Allan Bower, Lou Hector, Leo Lev)
