Research: Interfaces and Coatings: Crack Nucleation at Interfaces

Summary

The goal of this project is to compute the stress required to nucleate a crack at the interface between two materials.  Atomistic simulations are used to compute atomic-scale traction-displacement relations for the interface.  The traction-displacement relation is used in a discrete dislocation computation that predicts the critical remote stress required to separate the interface.  J.
