Research: Interfaces and Coatings: Coating delamination under contact loading

Summary

The goal of this project is to compute the strength of a hard wear-resistant coating which is subjected to contact loading, in terms of the properties of the interface, substrate, and coating.  There are three current projects

1. Discrete dislocation simulations of coating delamination under an asperity contact (M. O'Day, W. Curtin)

2. Computation of delamination mechanism maps under contact loading (Yanfei Gao, Shuman Xia, Allan Bower, Lou Hector, Leo Lev)

3. Computation of deformation and fracture in diamond coated WC/Co substrates (Benjamin Ciotti, Allan Bower, Leo Lev, Y.T. Cheng)
