INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING AND STATICS

Summary
ENGN0030 is intended to give a broad introduction to the engineering discipline to those with little or no previous exposure to the subject, as well as to provide a foundation for further study in engineering. Topics to be discussed include: (i) an introduction to the engineering profession; (ii) estimation and quantitative problem solving; (ii) optimization; (iii) engineering design; (iv) vectors (self-study); and (v) statics. The course will conclude with a major design project.
The co-requisite for the course is Math 10 (or higher).Students who have taken statics in high-school or college level physics or engineering courses may elect to take an optional, advanced section in place of the Statics section of the course. This section will have its own lectures, homework assignments and examinations. Those who elect to take this section must pass a placement test.
