Additional Information:The intent of this course is to assemble teams of students with widely varying backgrounds. It is expected that each team member will bring different skills to the project. This is why there are no formal pre-requisites for enrolling in the course. The main requirements are enthusiasm and a willingness to work in a "real-world" environment. In the event of oversubscription, preference will be given to upperclassmen.The course is ecperimental in nature, and in fact will be the subject of a parallel study on how to effectively organize instruction in this area. In addition to the instructors named above, others to be involved in the course include Professors Hazeltine and Briant from the Division of Engineering, and Professor Schlesinger (Brown's Senior Vice President for Development). The companies which have tenatively committed to providing projects include The Foxboro Corporation, Albany International Corporation, and Comtec Information Systems, Inc. Your are encouraged to visit these websites in order to learn more about these companies. All are located a short drive from Brown's campus. These companies are internationally recognized leaders in their respective fields and offer a wide variety of "high-tech" products. The project ideas that they will share with us will be drawn from their extensive experience in the world marketplace, but are in an early stage of development. The project teams will help these companies decie how to move forward with these ideas. Participating Companies:
Introduction to Company
and Employees (Semester I): Note: The above meetings will take place at the company locations. You will be required to travel to your assigned company several times during the semester. We will do our best to arrange carpools. Initial company meetings and presentations at the company are mandatory for all participants. If your course schedule is inflexible, it may not be advisable to take this course.
