Notes on making Drawings of Parts
Create a drawing file by selecting New and as Type pick Drawing. In the New Drawing window make sure your part is in the Default Model field,
if not Browse and select it.
Select start Empty with Form to add a sheet form to drawing – use en174.frm.
To place the first
View:
Place TOP view into upper
left portion of drawing:
From the main Insert menu select Drawing View – General…
Click in drawing area to position this first view. (upper left)
The Drawing View window pops up, select from Model view names: TOP - OK
All
subsequent views are projections:
Next add FRONT view by Insert menu select Drawing View – Projection…
Click in center of area you want to locate it (below TOP view), this will place the FRONT view.
Add RIGHT view again by Insert - Drawing View – Projection…
Click in center of area you want to place it (to the right of FRONT view), this will be the RIGHT view.
Add a
special (perspective) view by
Insert - Drawing View – General…
Click in center of area you want to place it (to the right of TOP view).
The Drawing View window pops up,
select Scale
– Custom Scale and enter a value
for this view’s scale and then - Ok
You can change the over all sheet scale by picking the number next to Scale at the bottom of the sheet and selecting it and then:
Edit – Value
(select Edit from the main window, it is not under the Menu Manager menu).
Move the different views by selecting a view and drag it to its new location. Note: By default the movement of views is disabled. Click on Lock View icon to turn it off.
Select how / what is shown in each view by picking one, or more views - then right clicking and selecting Properties – select View Display in the Drawing View window.
Pick your preferences for Hidden and Tangent lines:
No Hidden; No Disp Tan - Apply
Note: Do not use the Shading display mode for the graphics window and disable the display of Datum features (planes, axis, curves, points and coordinate systems).
Adding a Section view:
Insert - Drawing View –
Projection …
Click in center of area you want to locate it, this will place a projected view.
Select this view and right click
it, select Properties. In the Drawing View
window select Sections and 2D
cross-section. Next click on Plus
icon to select an existing, or create a new section. Creating a new
section, select in Menu Manager XSEC CREATE
Planar |
Single | Done
Enter an A at the prompt at bottom this will identify the section as A-A. If a datum plane does not exist in the plane you
want to place the section use
Make Datum - Offset
now
select RIGHT and then select Enter
Value and specify it - Done
Read the message window
and pick Apply and Close
on Drawing View window.
Creating the section can
also be done in Part mode:
View – View Manager select Xsec
Tab -
New enter name for section X
Planar - Single – Done
pick a datum plane, surface for the location, or create one on the fly.
Back then in the Drawing file we can place this cross-section, either as a projection from an existing view, or by itself. See above in Adding a Section view.
Adding detail views:
Insert - Drawing View – Detailed…
select center of detail on
an existing view -- sketch a spline to define the outline of
detail, middle button to end. Set center of location of view to be placed –
enter Scale Enter name of View. Select
Boundary Type of outline in parent view, may be circle. Define location of Note
near parent view.
Dimensioning
To show Dimensions of the model click on Open the Show/Erase dialog box icon .
Select Show tab and pick the Dimension button, pick also the Axis button, pick features in the model tree.
click End Select and click Close.
Clean dimensions tool - Edit – Cleanup – Dimensions…
select views, or individual Dimensions – click middle mouse button for Done Sel;
specify Offset and Increment,
pick the Cosmetic tab and select
options - Apply
| Close
You can also move Dimensions by hand within the view by selecting and dragging them.
Switch dimensions between views by selecting them and right clicking. This brings up a pop-up menu from which select Switch View and next pick view to switch to.
One can also add dimensions manually from the main window select
Insert – Dimension – New References… and place dimensions similarly as in the Sketcher.
Modifying Dimensions
Adding diam symbol Ć, or R for Radius by selecting Properties from the Right Mouse button pop-up menu, then you can add Pre- and/or Post-fixes to the dim values etc.
Adding Tolerances
File – Properties
in new File Properties window select Drawing Options
Look for tol_display
set to Yes
Adding drawing sheets
Adding Drawing sheets Insert – Sheet the rest is as before, enter num, name etc.
Then to switch between sheets View – Go to Sheet…
Adding more models to a sheet
Adding more models File – Properties
in new File Properties window select Drawing Models – Add Model – browse and select part file, then use Set Model to switch between parts.
