The Guarantee. For the hours listed above (except for additional times in italics) each student guarantees to be present from that time for at least 20 minutes in room 095 (or 097); if JDD has not shown within 5 min of GAT, the student is free to leave...In some cases, if I'm running late, I make check in by phone... 863-9852: please answer! However, I will make every effort to be there and meet with each student at his or her hour listed. If I fail to show up within 5 minutes, and don't call the lab either, then you are entitled to a Get Out of FTQ Free card. You can use the card at some point in the future, to skip the FTQ in qualifying for an Asgn.

For their times listed, and for 20 minutes thereafter, those students have priority for my attention. If a student is not present within 5 minutes of his or her guaranteed time, an effort may be made to contact the student ASAP. May I have your cell phone number?

Room 095: Room 095 will be unlocked during business hours, 9-5 M-F. The phone number is 3-9852., free local calls! Heat can be adjusted with thermostat near the light switch. No need to turn the lights off, they are kept on by a motion sensor in the ceiling. At the end of the 10 ft optical table is a food refrigerator: don't use the big 'frig near the sink for food or drink: too much formaldehyde inside... On top of the food frig we will keep a tin of Altoids, chewable vitamins and extra vit. C.

Computers in 095: No need to turn off the computers, they run 24-7 during the semester. There is a 5th computer, just left of the file cabinet, that is NOT available for SIMULINK use; it runs continuously collecting data or optimizing with a "breeding" algorithm. The back-door computer in 095 is connected to speakers (w/subwoofer) and will be the only computer in the lab to be used for playing DVD, mp3, iTunes, music CD's etc.

I request that on none of the computers do you "autoarrange" the desktop. Also, do not install AOL IM on the computer next to the sink...in fact let's say AOL IM can be only on the computer next to the phone... Do not install Limewire or Kazaa, either.

Security: The door to 095 is on a M-F 9-5 timer that releases the strikeplate; push on the door to open it. Toward the end of the school year the annual Time of Long-Term Borrowing (theft of printers, function generators, laptops, multimeters, hand tools, soldering irons, books, watches, jackets, etc) ensues. Prudence requires us to lock up the lab overnight and on weekends for the last 4 weeks of the course.
