Steven F. Petteruti


Steven Petteruti is currently Adjunct Lecturer in Engineering at Brown University.  Since 1999 Mr. Petteruti has participated in the Brown University Engineering Entrepreneurship I/II class, first as a student/business mentor, and from 2005 as Adjunct Lecturer.  Mr. Petteruti has been a Vice President of Engineering at Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ:  ZBRA).  With over 17 years experience in the automatic identification industry, Mr. Petteruti has played a leadership function in all aspects of software, electrical, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and product development.

Prior to Zebra, in 1986 Mr. Petteruti became one of the principals of Comtec Information Systems, Inc., first as Engineering Manager, and later as Vice President of Engineering.  During his time at Comtec, Mr. Petteruti focused on driving a research and development effort which included the creation of C programmable data collection and printing systems in 1987.

Subsequently, Mr. Petteruti lead the conversion of portable impact printing systems to thermal technology, which later evolved into a full range of portable and desktop thermal print solutions to enable Comtec to emerge as the industry leader with offices worldwide supporting an international customer base.  In 1993 WalMart (NYSE:  WMT) awarded Comtec the Technology Pioneer Award, one of only two companies to receive this award.  Around the same time Comtec received the Vendor Partnership award from Sears (NASDAQ:  SHLD) for being ranked in the top 1% of its suppliers. In 2000 Comtec was acquired by Zebra.

Prior to Comtec, Mr. Petteruti was a Design Engineer at Raytheon (NASDAQ:  RTN), modeling circuit designs in software.   Mr. Petteruti received his Bachelor of Science in 1983 in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, and completed MIT’s executive training program “Managing Technical Professionals and Organization” in 1997.  Mr. Petteruti currently holds 24 patents relating to multiple products in the auto-identification field.
